The Vegas Mini Marathon

I ran the Las Vegas Mini Marathon today! 13.1 miles!!
It was Vegas at its best- Elvis drinking beer, lots of brides and grooms- you could get married at one of the mile markers, show girls ( I even saw a girl run in platforms!)

So I am going to Indiana tomorrow to see friends and for a wedding. The to Lexington for a few days. I would love to see everyone but I don't have a lot of time- so please give me a call and come see me!!! I'll be hanging out with my family!

Nate however will be in Vegas, they have Student Ministry Sunday so you can watch him LIVE here. It only works during the service and he will be playing worship at the beginning and end. Our service times are 8:30, 10, 11:30 which is 11:30, 1, 2:30 in Kentucky!!

Pray for him as he prepares for this Sunday and for safe travels for me!

Nate is gone this week to Middle school camp. He called this morning and it rocks!

He can see the beach from the chapel (they get to go everyday) and there are lots of fun activities going on. Most important though be praying for safe travels this week.

- That our students hearts are open to what God wants to teach them

- That the leaders are used in the students lives.

- Pray for God's healing in each students life.

Next week were off to CIY (I get to go to this one!) and then my family is in town!

Its a hard class and a little boring mainly about Social Welfare Policy (TANF) and Child Abuse/Neglect.

Well today my professor started talking about "the thing going on in Texas...400 kids getting taken out of their homes." Well I had not idea about the fundamentalist Mormons and all of it (which now I have educated myself on cnn.com) His response was the following: " You are a college student and should know what is going on in our world today, you need not be ignorant on world events." To which I responded (very politely) "Well I watched to local news last night and saw nothing about this." Which I had but really just to keep the scoop on the new Hillary and Obama fight.

He went on to say, "I don't understand when college students don't know whats going on, do you know what the War in Iraq is?" To which my classmate and someone I have gotten close to got angry. She yelled a little...

With all this said I GOT INTO THE SCHOOL OF SOCIAL WORK today. Even with not knowing current news reports.

7 Questions for Nate Johnson

What do you do for The Crossing and tell us about your family. I am the Creative Arts Pastor for student ministries and my wife and I moved to Las Vegas from Kentucky this past January. Emily and I have been married for a little over a year but have been dating since early High School. I have two older brothers and one older sister. My parents have been happily married for over 35 years.
What is your favorite thing about working with students?
My favorite part about working with students is the energy and joy I get by being around them. My passion and desire to show Jesus Christ is increased every time I get to hang out with a student. I have had many young adults invest in my life, which has impacted my walk with Christ greatly. To think that God would want to use me in impacting students is a very humbling mission.
If you had the opportunity to meet one public figure of your choice, who would you pick?
If I could meet any public figure it would have to be Bono from U2. Not only is he the lead singer of one of my favorite bands of all time, but I would love to talk to him about some of the issues that he speaks passionately about.
What are you listening to right now?
I am listening to an EP of a Christian band that is called The Myriad. I love their driving sound and purposeful lyrics.
What’s your favorite thing about Las Vegas so far?
My favorite thing about Las Vegas so far is that no matter where I go in this town, I can see the Luxor light. Not only is it a symbol that I actually live in Las Vegas, but also, I get turned around a lot and it helps me always know where the strip is in relation to where I am going.
What’s your favorite sports team?
My favorite sports team is and always will be the University of Kentucky Wildcats. No matter what sport it may be, I bleed blue!
Where is your favorite place you have traveled to?
My most favorite place that I have visited has to be Northern Ireland. I went there on a mission trip a few years ago and I was blown away by how many different shades of green there could be in one area.

House Church

Nate and I lead a House Church on Wednesday nights. These are small groups designed to build community not just with you group but with one or two others. We have two girls groups and a guys at a family of the churches house. We eat a meal together (which different people bring: last week I made pasta, this week someone's mom brought sloppy joes!!) then we do announcements, worship, and talk about anything else that is important.

Each house church picks a country that they want to impact this year. Our students picked Asia. A girl in the church was there first semester on a missions trip so they collected money to send her a care package. Now were working with Gospel for Asia. A missions organizations. Are students bring money each week and are trying to buy GFA-missionaries a bicycle. I think its such a cool thing that these students are thinking not only outside themselves, their schools, church, home but also their country.

It is the beginning of a new year. It is going to take me three months to remember to write down “2008” instead of “2007”. I love this time of year. I think it is because I start to dream again about what I want my life to really look like. Probably the same is true for you. You are probably determined that this year is going to look different than last year and the year before that. Maybe you want to lose some weight, or to stop smoking, or to spend more time with your family. It is usually this time of year we start to look at the balance in our bank account (or the lack there-of). So we decide, we are going to get out of debt. We are going to use that raise to help out some people or to be more generous. We decide that we are going to use our time to really make a difference. We all have really good intentions.

What if your good intentions could really become reality? What if your money seemed to go further and have more purpose? What if your time were spent on the things that really left a lasting impact? It is possible. With that in mind, we just started a NEW SERIES we are calling, “Beyond Good Intentions,” and we added the tagline, “living the generous life”. We really believe that when you use your time and money for all that God intended, you will feel more purpose and fulfillment than ever before. We are going to spend the first few weeks of the year looking at how we view our money and our time.

Let me challenge you to start the new year with more than good intentions. Why don’t you commit to discovering how God can make a bigger impact than you ever imagined? You will be glad you did.

Its really amazing, we were most exhausted at this point and it felt so unreal to be actually here. All it all we had a great trip more of my first week of life here later! Love to all.

We arrived safely Thursday night signed our lease to our cute home Friday morning. Our stuff didn't arrive till late that night so we got a lot of stuff done (like new cells if you need my number!). Some people from the church came by this morning to help us unload and were about 1/2 way unpacked. A couple from the church had us over for dinner and let us shower b/c we have NO GAS which means no heat or hot water!! Its coming on Monday.

Lots of post to come about our road trip and our new home! Below was just a stop on our way.

As I am writing this article, the temperature has been in the 60s and 70s, my yard smells like freshly cut grass, and Im no longer running my air conditioner on a daily basis. That means only one thing - (everybody sing together…), Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas…. No matter how much it doesnt always feel like Christmas in Las Vegas, there is just something magical about this time of year. Luke 2:11, perhaps one of the most hope-filled verses in the Bible says, Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. And the world was changed forever.

The world shouldn't define Christians as anti-abortion, anti-homosexuality, and republicans but it should define the church as LOVE. God does not need better methods for the church to grow, He needs better men...

*I read this and thought I walk with Him why do I not feel this free living or light burdens then my beautiful husband reminded me that I may be burden in this physical world but my soul finds rest in the Lord. He is right.
